Dad had mentioned that he would love to take a ride in the same kind of torpedo-bomber that grandpa flew during WWII. After skimming grandpa's book, I found that he flew the Grumman TBM Avenger. With some google-fu, I found Rocky Mountain Wing out of Grand Junction, Colorado that will take you for a ride. Our thought is that we can buy him a ride, as well as round trip airline tickets for him and mom, a rental car, a hotel for a couple nights, and a couple of nice dinners. Please note that in the cases of transportation and hotel, we've rounded up on costs. This gives us plenty of leeway. If you have any other ideas or ways that we may be able to reduce the cost, please let me know.
A 40 minute experience that includes history, pre-flight safety briefing, startup, engine and hydraulic system checks, taxi, take-off, cruise, simulated bomb run, landing, and post-flight debrief.
Two round-trip tickets and a rental car for mom and dad.
The Wine Country Inn is a hotel that may work well. Breakfast is included, and it's in close proximity to the airport they'll go to for the ride.
We were considering purchasing gift cards from a couple of nice restaurants in the area.
